A Taunton city councilor was caught in an ongoing police sex sting in Brockton Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Daniel M. Barbour, 41, was charged with lewd, wanton and lascivious conduct and accosting or annoying a person of the opposite sex.

Barbour told NewsCenter 5 that he “was just out for a walk” when he was arrested.

Brockton Police said they were trying to bring a stop to what has been a long-standing problem of men soliciting other men for so-called “stranger sex” at D.W. Field Park.

Barbour was arrested by an undercover officer who said Barbour pulled up to his car and “began licking his lips.” The two men then walked to a pathway and had a conversation about sex, Brockton police said.

Barbour enter a plea of not guilty at his arraignment in Brockton District Court Thursday. His attorney filed a motion to have the charges dismissed.

D.W. Field Park was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. However, public sexual encounters at the park have been a longstanding problem, with neighbors complaining about finding a variety of sex-related items scattered along pathways, the Brockton Enterprise reported.
