BOSTON -- The Red Sox are working through City Hall channels to get permits for two Fenway Park rock and roll concerts.
Not everyone's in love with the idea, reported Newscenter 5's Mary Saladna, but so far there have been very few naysayers.Red Sox officials haven't confirmed that it is Bruce Springsteen who would be playing, but that is the word all over town. If it does happen, there will be two shows Sept. 6 and 7. It will be the first time a rock concert would be played at Fenway Park. If city officials give their blessing, "The Boss" could play Fenway. Fans are crossing their fingers."I was ecstatic. Springsteen is my favorite. I'm really looking forward to that and somehow (will) try to get in. Hopefully, I won't be working during that show so I can see it," said Ron Cecchini, a security guard at Fenway. The Red Sox management see it as the perfect marriage -- the storied Fenway Park featuring an icon of American music. Sox officials went before a city licensing board Monday to request the proper permits and mostly heard support from their Fenway neighbors. But they also heard a number of concerns about crowd control and noise."When the Red Sox play the national anthem, I stand up in my living room. I hear the cheers and I also hear the boos. I don't want to hear Bruce Springsteen in my living room," said Fenway neighbor Rick Orareo. The city assured residents that they will work with the concert organizers to address those noise issues. The city's licensing board has 30 days to make a ruling, reported Saladna, but the decision will probably come sooner than that.
