A horse got stuck in an in-ground pool in Marshfield on Wednesday, taking its owner by surprise.

"I was in the house, actually on my computer, and my friend was in the kitchen, and she said, 'Abby, did you know there's a horse in the pool?' I was, like, freaking out," said the horse's owner, Abby Crosby.

Crosby shuddered when she recalled the accident that broke the serenity of Sky Farm early Wednesday afternoon.

Star -- a 10-year-old Halflinger -- somehow got free and fell into the deep end of the pool, which was covered for the winter.

"She got out of her paddock by breaking into another paddock, and getting out of that one because the gate was open," Crosby said.

The rescue crews eventually put a harness on the animal and lifted it out after attempts to build a ramp were unsuccessful. For Crosby, it was dramatic and chaotic.

"When the emergency people got here, they cut the cover so that we could get her to the shallow end. Once she was in the shallow end she could stand comfortably. But she was -- at that point -- really cold and exhausted," Crosby said.
