A sport utility vehicle and a sedan collided in Wareham on Saturday morning, injuring both drivers and five children who were riding in one of the cars.

Police said 66-year-old Louise Houle, of Falmouth, was driving a 1999 Toyota Avalon westbound on Route 25 when he knocked into the back of a 1999 GMC Suburban that was traveling in front of him in the center lane, causing both cars to roll over.

Heavy rain was falling on the roadway when the cars collided at about 11:15 a.m. near exit 1, close to Route 195, although police have not ruled that weather was a factor in the crash.

Houle and the 41-year-old driver of the Suburban, Daylene Tropeano, of Buzzards Bay, were both injured in the crash. Five children who were traveling with Tropeano -- boys ages 11, 7, and 4, and two girls, a 9-year-old and a 1-year-old infant -- were also hurt.

All seven victims were transported to Tobey Hospital in Wareham for treatment. The 9-year-old girl and the 4-year-old boy suffered serious injuries and were transported to Children’s Hospital in Boston.

Traffic was backed up for several miles as an accident reconstruction team worked at the site for about two and a half hours to determine how the collision occurred.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the State Police at 508-759-4488.
