MILTON, Mass. -- An image that appeared in a window at Milton Hospital last week has put hospital officials in a difficult situation.
Many believe the image resembles the Virgin Mary holding baby Jesus, leaving the hospital inundated with visitors, Newscenter 5's Amalia Barreda reported. They've come in steady streams -- even entire families together. There is spontaneous prayer, some falling to their knees, pointing upward and gazing in contemplation, overwhelmed by what they believe they are seeing."That's as clear as day. This is huge emotionally," said Mary Ann Ellis, of Braintree. "I feel a presence.""I see it. Absolutely. Yeah, it makes you feel really good. My 13-year-old didn't see it but that's OK. Everyone's different," said Janet MacLellan, of Braintree.Matthew Williams, 14, says he sees it."From far away it really looks like the Virgin Mary and Jesus," Williams said. The hospital says a broken seal released chemical deposits that mixed with condensation to create what the faithful are convinced is a miracle."That's what I think it is, yeah," said Ronnie DiFazio."There's some scientific explanation, but I would say that's a miracle," said Lionel Tassy, of Easton."You want to have it both ways?" Barreda asked."Yes," Tassey responded. The growing belief in the apparition is causing a bit of a headache for the hospital, trying to remain respectful in the face of growing traffic jams bringing the curious to see for themselves.A statement requests people come later in the day adding, "the hospital has no official position with respect to the issue of an apparition. However, if there is a special message, it is believed by many that the purposed is to affirm the charitable mission of Milton Hospital to continue to serve the sick.""We cannot explain everything but it has a meaning. We don't know what it is," said Soeurette Tassy Lesperance, of Kissimmee, Fla."I guess we just have to pray and maybe god will teach us," said Magela Justin Tassy, of Easton.
