A Westwood High School Senior was killed in a car accident early Sunday morning, Norwood Police reported.

Paul Hanley, 17, lost control of his car around a turn on Winter Street in Norwood due to black ice, said Norwood police Officer Jamie Mazzola. Norwood police are unsure if other factors, such as speed, alcohol or drugs, contributed to the crash.

Hanley's 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee left the road, hit a utility pole and continued into a stone wall. Police responded to the crash at around 12:17 a.m. Sunday.

Hanley, a Westwood native, had to be extricated from the front seat by the Norwood Fire Department and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Two male passengers, 17 and 19 years old, were in the car. The passenger in the back seat had to be extracted from the car. The two passengers were taken by ambulance, one to Caritas Norwood Hospital and the other to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. The extent of the passengers' injuries is unknown.

Mazzola and the Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Analysis Team will continue to investigate the crash.
