WARREN, Mass. -- The remains of Molly Bish were identified Monday after human bones and teeth were found just miles away from the pond were the Warren teenager disappeared three years ago.
"We have identified Molly's remains. We just came back from notifying the Bishes," District Attorney John Conte.DNA testing done on bones from a left arm and right shin found in the wooded search area and dental records compared to a tooth found led to the identification of the missing 16-year-old, officials said."We have uncovered other remains, and they are now in the hands of our state police detectives. All of the remains were recovered within a circumference of 1,000-feet," Conte said.Officials believe that they have pinpointed the murder scene, and will return to the area Tuesday to search for other evidence."We believe that it was a shallow burial because all of the bones were found on the surface," Conte said.Conte said the discovery of the bones prompted investigators to look again at some suspects interviewed after Bish's disappearance."We have 11 people that failed a lie detector test," Conte said. "These leads will be put into our computer base with the help of the state police. We are going to search every single lead that we have. The body was found in Palmer, five miles from Cummins pond, leads us to believe that it may be a (local person)."Conte said that based on the evidence found, it may be difficult to pinpoint a cause of death. All the bones were found near where a hunter discovered a bathing suit last month similar to the one that Molly was wearing when she disappeared from her lifeguard post at Warren's Cummins Pond nearly three years ago.The long wait for the Bish family has come to an end. Last week Molly's parents reacted to the discovery of the bones saying they felt strongly the remains were Molly's. They issued a statement following Monday's developments."At this time the Bish family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and continued support throughout these three years. Molly has come home," a Bish family friend said.Molly Bish vanished June 27, 2000, as she was preparing for her morning lifeguard duty. When swimmers arrived at the beach, only her lunch, water bottle, radio and sandals were there.
