WARREN, Mass. -- Search crews are back in the woods Monday but the big development may be if there is usable DNA from the first bone that was sent away for testing, Newscenter 5's Jack Harper reported.
Investigators are supposed to find out Monday if they have an ample sample to actually do any DNA identification of the bone that was sent away for testing. Worcester county District Attorney John Conte is expected to comment on any developments Monday afternoon."Nasty conditions, I was just in there myself. Its uphill today, so its painstakingly slow and of course what we're looking for is anything from a small rock to anything that is huge," a lead investigator explained. "They must be very careful with the way they use their sticks and rakes and very careful with the way they look."
Monday morning, two teams of 25 state environmental police were sent out working side by side. They are looking for anything of value, with he ultimate goal remaining to find the point of origin, the murder scene."It's called a tight line search -- we don't want to miss an inch of ground so when we come back with the probability of detection that we give the command post, we'll have a high one we hope" the investigator continued. The searchers do enter the woods hopeful and rested after a day off, most of the men saying they really needed that day break, and anxious to get back to fifth week of the renewed search.
