A massive search is underway Tuesday in the woods near where a bathing suit, similar to that worn by lifeguard Molly Bish when she disappeared, was found.

Over the weekend there was news that a hair scrunchie was discovered in a river. It is also being tested for any possible DNA connection to the teen.

Newscenter 5's David Boeri reported that as the three-year anniversary of Bish's disappearance approaches, investigators are conducting the biggest search they have conducted in the Warren area since the summer of 2000, when Bish disappeared.

Whether they find anything on Tuesday or not, they've already announced they'll be here and searching all week.

"Maintain double arm length interval. This should give us the 50 yards we have to work as we see it now," a lead investigator told searchers.

In the woods at the Sportsman's club there are four teams of searchers, 100 volunteers, environmental investigators and a team of dogs.

"Each team will be doing a 300 by 400 yard tight-grid search. What that means is that they will virtually be on their hands and knees searching for anything that may become evidence or may lead us to finding Molly Bish," said Massachusetts State Police's Lt. Marian McGovern.

The search area covers 25 acres, in addition to the eight acres already covered.

Meanwhile the district attorney says he expects to hear soon about the hair discovered Saturday.

"We should know very, very shortly as to whether or not we're going be able to get any DNA off of that material," District Attorney John Conte said.

The district attorney also added that if they do have enough material for testing and the tests show anything, it will only show whether or not that DNA is Bish's. They are not expecting to get DNA samples from anyone else because the DNA they will be testing is mitochondrial -- the only DNA expected to have survived after this amount of time.
