A group of Massachusetts General Hospital clinicians are bound for the USNS Comfort off the coast of Haiti.

NewsCenter 5's Shiba Russell reported Tuesday that the floating Navy hospital can handle 1,000 patients, and every bed is now filled with victims of the earthquake.

"You really have to dig deep into your original gut of skills and just get out there and do what you need to do and make do," cardiac surgical nurse Karen Zoeller said.

It's a personal mission for X-ray technician Renold Audate. He's a native of Haiti. His mother brother and sister are OK, but they lost their home in the quake.

"I feel proud. I feel close to them," he said. "I feel like I am doing something for them."

The team is bracing for an intense three-week mission.

"I'm particularly worried about amputations," Dr. Paul Firth said. "They are very hard on everybody."

A green goodie bag was given to all the doctors and nurses. It contains coloring books and crayons for the children of Haiti and rosary beads. Red Sox baseball caps were also included.
