A Delta plane aborted takeoff at Boston's Logan International Airport Friday after a pilot smelled smoke in the cockpit.

An Ohio-bound plane at Terminal A aborted takeoff at about 10:30 a.m. The plane returned to the gate, and the aircraft was evacuated.

Officials said that the smell of smoke may have been caused by deicing fluid. There were 28 people on the plane at the time. There were no reports of any injuries.

"The plane started to accelerate into takeoff, and about one-third of the way through, it started to slow down," passenger David Rogers said. "I knew something was unusual, and I said, 'Oh no. This isn't good.' The pilot brought it to a stop, and after that it was routine emergency management. I thought the pilots and the airport did a wonderful job."

Massport spokesman Phil Orlandella said takeoffs and landings at the airport were stopped for about 25 minutes.

Last week, a New York-bound plane returned to Logan minutes after takeoff after a pilot smelled a similar scent. The Delta pilot turned the plane around about eight minutes into the flight, and it landed safely in Boston.

In the wake of the Christmas Day bombing attempt on a plane over Detroit, security at airports in the U.S. and around the world has been tightened.

Officials said Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab tried to blow up an Amsterdam-to-Detroit flight by igniting an explosive in his pants. On Thursday, President Barack Obama acknowledged government missteps in the near catastrophe.
