Pentucket Regional High School Student Dies

A high school hockey player has died Tuesday evening after collapsing on the ice during practice.

Haverhill police told NewsCenter 5 that the Pentucket Regional High School student collapsed on the ice at about 5 p.m. at Veteran's Memorial Arena.

According to The Lawrence Eagle Tribune, the student was identified as 17-year-old senior Captain Matt McCarthy. Police said there was no indication that foul play was involved in McCarthy's death, but there was no immediate explanation.

The student was pronounced dead at Merrimack Valley Hospital.
