A woman claiming to be an undercover FBI agent allegedly tried to kidnap a 2-year-old child from a Cambridge mall at the height of the holiday shopping season.

Police said Michele Saggese, 48, of Cambridge, tried to grab the young boy from his father while he and his wife were shopping at the CambridgeSide Galleria on Wednesday, according to Wicked Local.

The child's mother said she was inside the store White House Black Market when Saggese approached her and began to ask questions about the family’s residency status. The woman said Saggese continued to harass her and demand to see "American papers," Wicked Local reported.

At the time, the child was with his father outside the store and ran inside when his wife screamed for help. Saggese allegedly said, "I’m with immigration. I’m taking the kid," as she grabbed the boy.

The boy's father was able to free his son, and security was called. When police responded, Saggese was heard yelling at the security guard, telling him he was blowing her cover as an undercover immigration agent, Wicked Local reported.

She allegedly kicked the officer when he asker her to calm down. Saggese was arrested and charged with kidnapping, disorderly conduct, assault and battery and assault and battery on a police officer.
