BOSTON -- Boston police are asking for the public's help in their search for a wig-wearing gunman who shot and killed a Jamaica Plain convenience store clerk over the weekend, waving a pistol at the clerk as he hid his own face with a scarf.Police said Surendra Dangol, 39, was shot at about 3 p.m. on Saturday in the Tedeschi Food Shops store at the corner of Elliott and Centre Streets. Dangol, who lived in Somerville, had a wife and child in Nepal.Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley and Boston police held a news conference to release surveillance video of the suspect and a car believed to be the getaway vehicle.“I want to make something crystal clear to whoever did this: Nothing is going to deter us from finding you and holding you accountable for the life you took,” Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley said. The video shows that the gunman appeared to be about 6 feet tall, and was possibly wearing a wig along with distinctive hiking boots. He may have had a slight limp in his right leg. They said he loitered outside the store, located at 772 Centre St., for about 20 minutes before the robbery and may have spoken to another man sitting on a bench outside just before the shooting. Police hope to find that witness to find out what he may have seen.Security camera still photos previously released by Boston Police show a man in a heavy black coat and woolen cap entering the store with a blue backpack. He draped the backpack over the counter and told the clerk to put money in it, which Dangol did as the robber is seen at the counter reaching into his pocket and pulling out a gun. The clerk stuffed the backpack with cash from the register as the pistol was pointed at him at close range.Police said the robber then got into a waiting car and fled. The car was described by police as four-door white sedan, which they identified as a possible 1989 to 1995 Plymouth Acclaim.A customer who lives nearby told the Boston Herald he had walked in to buy batteries at the store shortly after and, after waiting at the counter for about three minutes, heard a gurgling sound.“I looked behind the counter and I saw the clerk lying face-down,” the customer told the newspaper. “I thought the guy was having a seizure. I didn’t see any blood right away.”Any community members who may have information about the suspect's identity or the whereabouts of the suspect vehicle is urged to contact the Homicide Unit by calling (617) 343-4470. Individuals wishing to provide information anonymously may do so by calling the CrimeStoppers Hotline at 1-800-494-TIPS or texting ‘TIPS’ to CRIME (27463).
