A Halifax man is accused in connection with an alleged hit-and-run crash involving a snow plow that left a woman hospitalized in critical condition.

Police recovered a vehicle matching the description of the sport utility vehicle involved in the Monday night crash at 61-year-old Robert Savastano's Plymouth Street home Tuesday night. He will be summonsed to court on criminal charges relating to the crash, which happened at the corner of Main and Pleasant streets.

Police said that Savastano admitted that he was behind the wheel of the vehicle at the time of the Plympton crash.

Mary Burk, 47, was seriously injured in the crash.

"I saw the woman flying in the air and hit the ground," said Kevin Sweeney, a witness.

Burk was last listed in critical condition at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, according to family members.

"We have been best friends our whole lives, and I don't want to lose my sister. She is in very bad condition. If anyone saw anything, I need help," the victim's sister, Joanna Bitto, said.

Chuck Randolph, a witness, said just before Burk got hit, she came into his auto body shop to make a phone call but couldn't get anyone to pick her up.

"It broke my heart," he said. "There are not a lot of lights here. I am wondering if the person who hit her didn't realize it."

Police said they are not sure if the driver saw Burk. Both witnesses said that's not possible. Authorities said the truck was not plowing the road at the time of the incident.
