Prosecutors said a Chips Ahoy box full of crack cocaine has landed a Boston drug dealer in jail for up to seven years after he pleaded guilty to trafficking.

Demetrius Ennis, 27, of Boston, pleaded guilty just before his trial was to start in Suffolk Superior Court on Nov. 17, the Suffolk County district attorney's office said.

Judge Regina Quinlan sentenced him Monday to a term of five to seven years at the Massachusetts Correctional Institute at Cedar Junction.

Prosecutors said they had evidence showing that Ennis tossed a cookie box containing 83 grams of crack cocaine onto the back porch of 42 Julian St. as a Boston police drug control unit closed in on the residence last February.

Police said they broke up a crack sale and gathered information leading them to Ennis on Julian Street. When they searched the premises they found the cookie box filled with crack lying on some snow on the back porch.

In Ennis' room they discovered several loose pieces of crack cocaine and more than $1,000 cash.
