A community rallied Monday night for a basketball star with cerebral palsy was struck by a pickup truck Friday.

Sean Cronk, of Everett, grabbed national attention for his moves on the basketball court. He has cerebral palsy that robbed him of the ability to run -- but he can shoot and he can fight.

His fight for survival continues after the accident that has really shaken the community. On Friday, Sean was struck by a pickup truck as he left basketball practice at the Everett Recreation Center.

"It was a horrific feeling and an horrific scene because they told me, 'You need to get over to Mass General because we don't know if he's going to make it,'" said Sean's mother, Cathy.

"He was so badly banged up ... (The) most serious is the head injury. They're worried about that."

Sitting outside the intensive care unit at Massachusetts General Hospital, Cathy Cronk said her son is slowly improving. Hospital staffers are closely monitoring his injuries, of which there are many.

"He was so badly banged up ... (The) most serious is the head injury. They're worried about that," Cathy Cronk said.

Sean captured hearts two years ago when he came off the bench in a pinch with less than a minute to go in the game. His efforts helped the Everett High School team win the league championship.

It was a moment Sean had been practicing for at the recreation center since the fourth grade. Though he walks with a limp and he certainly can't run, Sean has never let that interfere with his basketball dreams.

For his tenacity, the Boston Celtics honored Sean, and he was featured in Sports Illustrated.
