Volunteers are needed this weekend to help pack Christmas care packages for the troops.

Cape Cod Cares for Our Troops needs people to help on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Trowbridge Tavern and Canal Club in Bourne.

Each package will consist of toiletries, snacks, coffee, hot chocolate, powdered drink mixes, candy, gum, mints, socks, batteries, Christmas cards and a T-shirt.

This year’s Christmas for Our Troops project is in honor of fallen Marine Cpl. Nicholas G. Xiarhos, 21, of Yarmouthport, who died in combat on July 23 in Afghanistan.

Cape Cod Cares for Our Troops is a nonprofit organization with 100 percent of the donations going to benefit troops.

Anyone who would like to volunteer to help pack or make a monetary donation is asked to stop in at the Trowbridge Tavern and Canal Club located next to the Massachusetts State Police Barracks at the Bourne Rotary.

For additional information about this program or if you have the mailing address of a loved one serving in Iraq or Afghanistan, call 508-896-6424.
