MBTA Driver To Be Honored By Pats
Lewis Stopped Train Inches Away From Woman Who Fell On Tracks

BOSTON -- An MBTA driver who stopped an Orange Line train moments before it struck a woman who fell onto the tracks at North Station earlier this month will be honored by the New England Patriots. Sophia Hartdegen, 26, was waiting for the train when she walked toward the tunnel to light a cigarette. When the train arrived, she stepped on the cigarette to put it out, but she lost her balance and fell into the pit.The train was approaching the inbound platform at about 10:54 p.m. Nov. 6 when the driver, Charice Lewis, saw other passengers waving. She as able to stop the train a short distance from the woman.Lewis will be honored Sunday during the Patriots game against the New York Jets, according to MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo.
