BOSTON -- Vandals knocked over a veterans memorial in Kingston and overturned dozens of headstones at a nearby cemetery.Police were called to the historic Faunce School at 16 Green St. at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday after a report that the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States memorial had been knocked over. The memorial honors Kingston servicemen who were killed during combat in World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.Directly across the street, officers found 91 overturned headstones at the Evergreen Cemetery. Police said it does not appear that the vandals targeted any specific stones."I don't understand it. It's senseless. I live right on the corner here, and this could be happening right under my nose," resident Ken Stevens said."It's sad, tragic," Kingston Police Department Sgt. Robert Wells said. "Any day would be deplorable, but to have it happen today is just sick."Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Kingston police.
