BOSTON -- The wife of a Marine pilot who was laid to rest last week after he was killed in Afghanistan has given birth to the couple's second child. Marine Capt. Kyle Van De Giesen, 29, was killed last month in a midair helicopter collision. The North Attleboro native was laid to rest in Bourne on Friday. His wife, Megan, gave birth to a boy on Tuesday, according to Van De Giesen's brother, Ryan. The 6-pound 8-ounce baby was named Colin Joseph Van De Giesen. The couple also has a daughter, Avery. On Veterans Day, Gov. Deval Patrick talked about Van De Giesen's family and the sacrifice they've made as he recalled something he witnessed at the Marine's funeral."There was a 6-year-old adorable little girl who walked by and looked at one of those pallbearers and waved, 'Hi Daddy.' I looked from him across the aisle to see the widow of the lost captain and his 18-month-old daughter sitting on his lap, and I thought, she will never have the chance to wave that simple greeting to her father because he gave everything he had for us," Patrick said.Van De Giesen was a 1998 North Attleboro High School graduate and a 2002 graduate of St. Anslem College.A memorial fund has been set up to assist Van De Giesen's wife and children.Donations can be sent to:
