Despite being uninvited by the governor, a convicted domestic terrorist is still set to speak at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

An on-campus speech set for last week by Raymond Levasseur was canceled at the governor's insistence. But now it appears the speaking engagement is back on.

Levasseur's group, the United Freedom Front, has been linked to 20 bombings, including the April 1976 bombing at the Suffolk County Courthouse where 25 people were hurt. Other members of the group were convicted of trying to kill two Massachusetts troopers and killing a New Jersey state police officer.

The New Jersey officer's widow is incensed.

"He is a criminal and, therefore, as a criminal and a terrorist of our homegrown security right here in our home land. He's a terrorist and he should be denied these rights," said Donna Lamonaco.

In a statement, college leaders called the talk "repugnant," but said "the administrations commitment to academic freedom must be honored."

"Profound insensitivity to continue to try and continue to have this former terrorist on the campus," Patrick said.

"My feelings is he should still be behind bars for the atrocities he committed -- not just nationally but to this Commonwealth of Massachusetts," said Rick Brown, of the State Police Association.

Civil liberties advocates scolded the governor and protesters.

"The answer isn't to censor or silence this man. By the way, attempts to censor him have given him more publicity than he ever would have had had they merely let it go forward," said Carol Rose of the American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts.

Levasseur is scheduled to speak at the university on Thursday night.
