BOSTON -- A 15-year-old boy who was shot while riding his bicycle in Roxbury died Thursday at Boston Medical Center, officials said.
NewsCenter 5's Kelley Tuthill reported that Steven Jackson was shot on Schuyler Street Wednesday afternoon."Multiple gunshots were reported to be heard by people in the neighborhood. This individual went to the ground. Subsequently was moved to the hospital," Boston Police Department Capt. Al Goslin said. The shooting happened in an area that police and community activists say has been problematic recently."There have been ongoing issues. The police have been very aggressive about it. There have been a number of drug arrests and a number of gun arrests up in that area," Project R.I.G.H.T spokesman Michael Kozu said. The homicide comes months after the shooting death of 14-year-old Michael McQuay in Dorchester. His murder remains unsolved. Activists fear that there will be more violence as the weather grows warmer."We need to keep an eye out for our young people. Folks need to come up and report when they see an incident, or report before an incident happens," Project R.I.G.H.T spokesman Jorge Martinez said.Meanwhile, The Boston Globe reported that police were familiar with the victim because of some previous criminal activity. His family denies the report."It's tragic that he got shot like a dog in the street. No ones child should die like that," the victim's aunt, Veronica Williams, said. "He was a good kid. I am not saying that because he is my nephew. He is a good kid. He really is."Officials are asking for the public's help in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call officials at (800) 494-TIPS.
