A Texas businessman and former graduate of St. Joseph's School is the mystery person who donated $1 million to the Worcester elementary school earlier this year.

The identity of the donor, Richard A. Nowak, executive vice president and chief operating officer of GAF Materials, a Dallas-based roofing materials company, has been kept a secret since April.

Nowak, a 1955 graduate of the school, and his wife Marie, were honored during a parish dinner Friday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Worcester.

The school building project will include a parish center, library, technology center, cafeteria and a gymnasium, to be named after Nowak, who was a standout athlete at the school.
