The family of the Sudbury terror suspect is turning to social networking Web site Facebook in their quest to clear his name.

Brother Defends Terror Suspect On Facebook

Tamer Mehanna said his brother, Tarek, was set-up by federal agents with false and ludicrous accusations because of his constant refusal to tell lies about the Muslim community as an FBI informant.

"Free Tarek Mehanna" is the official and public Facebook site for people who believe in his innocence.

His brother says Mehanna refused a year's worth of FBI attempts to make the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy graduate a confidential informant.

Tamer Mehanna says on the Facebook page that agents wanted him to turn on members of the Muslim community and if he didn't, they'd make his life a living hell.

Now, the family believes Mehanna is paying the price for protecting other Muslims, according to the Facebook page.

"I can't say anything unless we see the evidence but I can say this isn't how I raised my son. I know what kind of person he is," Mehanna's father, Ahmed, said on Thursday.

The Facebook also includes a thank you note from the family for people's support.

More than 200 people have joined the page in the last two days.

One friend wrote on the Web site that Mehanna has a "clean heart" and "any other reports are lies."
