BOSTON -- A Marlborough man was arrested carrying a stolen rifle on Saturday after a manhunt for his capture was prompted by a threat against his family and taunting messages left for police, a prosecutor said Monday.A lawyer for Domenic Joyce, 20, told a judge in Framingham District Court that his client did not commit any crimes, and further claimed police made up Joyce's statements. The Metrowest Daily News reported that when Joyce was arrested police found a green highlighter marker on him. Police had found taunting notes written in green on the walls of two break-ins in Framingham saying "Me: 39, Police: 0," said Prosecutor Coli McMahon. When asked if he had written the notes, Joyce claimed he hadn't but that the pen was used to write them, police said.Police also asked Joyce if he had any involvement in the break-ins, McMahon said. Joyce's response was, "I do break-ins everywhere," said McMahon. The initial search for Joyce began late Saturday morning after Hudson police contacted Framingham police about threats he had made against his family living in Hudson, said McMahon.Police received a tip Joyce was in the Richardson Circle area and responded, said police.Joyce was spotted by police in that area with another man, said McMahon. When they saw police, the men dropped backpacks and a guitar case they were carrying and ran off, he said.Police found a .22-caliber rifle with a scope and bullet cartridges in the guitar case, said McMahon. The backpacks contained clothing, a laptop computer and other items, he said. Police determined all the items were stolen, McMahon said.Framingham police and the Massachusetts State Police began a search of the area, and found Joyce hiding on a roof on Freeman Street just before 1 p.m., McMahon said. The second suspect still remains at large, police said. They added that they have identified him, and are continuing to search for him. His name is being withheld.Joyce has been charged with last Monday's break-in on Arthur Street, multiple break-ins on Berkshire Road on Wednesday and a fourth burglary on Oaks Road on Thursday, police said. They are also investigating a possible connection between Joyce and a break-in on Wednesday on Ordway Street, said police.Joyce faces charges of possession of a firearm without a permit, possession of ammunition without a permit and four counts of breaking and entering and malicious destruction of property in Framingham.Hudson police have charged him with threatening to commit a crime, said police. They do not know why Joyce was threatening his family, police said. They had been investigating him in connection to several break-ins in Hudson, said police. Officers had found several stolen items in his Marlborough apartment, said police. They issued a warrant for his arrest after he threatened his family, they said. When the warrant was issued, Joyce fled to Framingham, police said.McMahon asked the judge to revoke bail in the Framingham breaking-and-entering case and set bail at $15,000 for the weapons charge."This was a Saturday afternoon and he was carrying a .22-caliber rifle through downtown. I would suggest he was a danger," said McMahon.Joyce's lawyer argued that bail should remain on the breaking-and-entering case, and bail on the weapons charge should be set to $500.The judge revoked bail on the first case, and did not set bail on the second. Joyce is currently being held without bail.Joyce will be arraigned in Marlborough District Court on Tuesday to face his Hudson charges.
