Police said a water cannon was used to destroy suspicious material found in Boston's North End Monday morning.

The bomb squad removed the material from an unoccupied apartment at 57 Fulton St.

The area around the building was evacuated and nearby streets closed but no injuries were reported.

It was not immediately clear why officers were called to the scene.
