A 5-year-old boy from Lowell died Wednesday after falling out of a window.

The unidentified boy fell from a third-floor window at a multifamily home at 23 Dane St. in Lowell at about 3:30 p.m., police said. The child’s mother was at home when the incident occurred, police said.

The boy was either pushed out or leaned through a window screen before he landed on the pavement outside.

The boy was flown by medical helicopter to Children's Hospital in Boston, where he later died.

State and local police were investigating the incident.
