Mark A. Fontaine, 22, Johnston

Mark Fontaine

Mark Fontaine had a knack for making others feel happy and for making peace despite a slight build.

"He always had a hug for you, even when his friends were around," Fontaine's grandmother, Pauline Fortier, told The Providence Journal. "His friends saw it and they'd hug you too."

Fontaine, 22, weighed just 115 pounds. But he prevented arguments from becoming fights, his family recalled.

Fontaine grew up in Johnston. He grew his hair long, but that ended when he was sent home as a student at St. Rocco's, his grandmother recalled.

Fontaine graduated from La Salle Academy in 1999 and took a year off before enrolling in law-enforcement courses at the Community College of Rhode Island. He wanted to be a police officer.

About eight of Fontaine's relatives and friends went to the Great White concert at The Station together. Two of them died in the fire.
