As war appears more and more likely, there are concerns terrorists could strike U.S. targets in retaliation. The Department of Homeland Security has raised the alert level from yellow to orange again, or from "elevated" to "high."

Newscenter 5's Kelley Tuthill reported on the security measures now in place in Massachusetts, saying Gov. Mitt Romney is expected to meet with public safety officials before holding a news conference at the Statehouse Tuesday.

The Department of Homeland Security is urging governors to provide additional police or National Guard troops at selected bridges in their states.

Boston police put out a radio broadcast urging officers to be extra vigilant around government buildings and landmarks.

Police are also asking the public to be more aware and contact authorities if they see anything unusual.

This after the Department of Homeland Security announced the national terror alert has been raised from yellow and elevated to orange, which is high alert status.

Federal law enforcement officials fear war with Iraq could potentially lead to terrorist attacks on the United States.

Federal security officers are being sent to monitor the borders, seaports, nuclear power plants and other places as part of what's being called operation Liberty Shield.

In the coming days there may be stepped up security at places such as the Prudential Center, the Hancock tower and "Old Ironsides," the U.S.S. Constitution.

The Coast Guard has also been instructed to step up patrols on the waterfront.

At Logan Airport, Massport has stepped up security as in previous times of heightened alert. A spokesman says some changes are visible while others are not.

You will likely see more state police in and around the airport. Last time federal officials raised the terror alert, troopers increased roadblocks and vehicle inspections.

But overall, a spokesman says, state police have been maintaining the same high level of security since post-9/11. "We are at the same enhanced security level regardless of any changes made in the national terror alert," police said.
