Six days after fumes from a New Bedford waste disposal plant made 120 people sick, one of the three victims who remained in the hospital was released Sunday, according to a Southcoast Health System statement.

The patient was discharged from Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, according to the statement, but the two patients at St. Luke's Hospital remain in fair condition, which means they are stable and conscious but not necessarily comfortable. Another patient, Luis Vega, was released Aug. 6.

"I want to thank everyone at Southcoast Hospitals, especially in our emergency departments, for their exceptional response to this very serious incident," said Keith A. Hovan, Southcoast Hospitals Group president and CEO.

The cause of the fumes has not yet been determined, and officials said Friday that testing at the site has been inconclusive so far.
