BOSTON -- Massachusetts is re-evaluating and in some cases scaling back major transportation plans as financing for the long-term projects dries up.

The MBTA's Green Line extension to Somerville and Medford, with an original estimated cost of $600 million in recent years, is now listed by the administration of Gov. Deval Patrick at $934 million.

That money will build tracks and stations only to Union Square and Tufts University by 2014.

The state had previously announced that by that time it would expand to Route 16.

David Mohler, the deputy transportation secretary who oversees planning, told The Boston Globe the commitment remains, but the state does not have the $130 million available for the final link and will not set a timeline for finishing.
