BOSTON -- A major radio station is signing off after more than four decades on the air as a new all-sports station hits the Hub. CBS RADIO Boston announced the arrival of "98.5 The Sports Hub," which will debut on Aug. 13 on the FM radio dial.Mix 98.5 will change its dial location and move to 104.1 FM, becoming MIX 104, while WBCN, "The Rock of Boston," will sign off and be available online only.The Sports Hub will serve as the home of the Boston Bruins beginning in the 2009-10 season and the New England Patriots beginning with their 2009 season.“This is an exciting day for not just Bruins fans, but for fans of all of Boston’s sports teams,” said Bruins Principal Charlie Jacobs. “For the first time in Boston, listeners will have an all-sports station on the FM dial which will be the home of the Bruins and the New England Patriots."The new all-sports station will feature a wide assortment of sports talk and play-by-play programming and showcase personalities including Toucher and Rich in morning drive.WBCN, whose call letters stood for the Boston Concert Network, switched to an underground music format in 1968, according to the station's Web site. It later moved toward a more mainstream album-oriented rock format.In 1995, WBCN switched to an alternative music format featuring new, younger DJs. By 2002, the station played a mix of classic and modern rock.
