STONEHAM, Mass. -- A man died after he was pulled from a pond in Stoneham and rushed to a hospital on Sunday afternoon.

The victim, who was not identified, was taken from Spot Pond at about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. It is unclear whether the man fell in the pond or if he was swimming in the area.

“I see all the officers here and the fire department, and I asked what happened and they say there is a guy who was swimming and he go down in the water,” a witness told NewsCenter 5.

Spot Pond and the surrounding area not authorized for swimming, according to the Department of Conservation and Recreation.

State police are investigating the death.
