Police say tempers flared in a Mattapan restaurant on Saturday, leading a cook to stab a co-worker in the stomach with a kitchen knife.

The victim, a cook at the Flames restaurant at 663 Morton Street, told police he was arguing with another cook when the man grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed him as he tried to flee.

Police said the victim had blood on his clothes from a stab wound in the abdomen. He was transported to Boston Medical Center and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Wellesley Clarke, 55 of Boston, was arrested in the kitchen shortly after. He will face charges of assault and battery with a knife.

Police seized the kitchen knife from the restaurant to be used as evidence in the case.
