Storm Damage: What To Do | Radar | AlertsA severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the National Weather Service after a tornado warning that was issued earlier expired.
Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter-size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph.Heavy rains and hail fell in many towns along Interstate 495. In Hopkinton, flooded roads and wind gusts brought down tree limbs and power lines."We had a downpour with some pea-sized hail for about 20 minutes. The main road is actually a big river. We are slowly but surely coming out of this," Hopkinton Fire Department Lt. William Lukey said."I never saw such as storm in my life," one resident said.
Another Hopkinton resident said that the hail sounded like someone was throwing softballs at the side of their home. The storm made for a difficult evening commute. Poor visibility forced motorists to pull over along the side of I-495 in Taunton to wait for the heavy rains to subside.Earlier, the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for southeastern Worcester County in central Massachusetts, but it expired at 3:45 p.m.Residents were urged to get to the lowest level of their homes, and if outside get to a flat location and watch out for debris.
