Three children and an adult were rescued Tuesday from a minivan submerged in water at an underpass in Worcester. Worcester fire crews rescued the people from the vehicle on Cambridge Street near Quinsigamond Avenue.

In West Boylston, a state trooper and a woman were injured when her car hit a cruiser.

State police said Sandra J. Konkle, 46, of West Boylston, was traveling on Route 190 north when her Chevrolet Cavalier went into a construction zone. At some point, she exited the car before it struck a parked state police cruiser. The cruiser then hit a trooper who was standing nearby.

The trooper and Konkle were both transported by ambulance with serious injuries to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.

Meanwhile, police in Concord responded to a report of a lightning strike at a home on Nancy Road.

"It was a tremendous crash. A bright light in the day time," said homeowner Dave Goranson.

A few minutes later, a fire was reported at a two-family home on Sudbury Road. Lightning is also suspected in that fire.

Scattered thunderstorms were in the forecast for Tuesday, some of which could be severe with potential hail and damaging winds.

The National Weather Service on Tuesday issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northwestern Worcester County, eastern Franklin County and east central Hampshire County.

National Grid said there were about 3,300 customers without power in central Massachusetts, mostly in the Charlton and Sturbridge area. NSTAR said there were about 1,500 customers without power on Tuesday in the Framingham area.
