Blood Donations Needed

Efforts Made To Help Victims Of Fire

Medical officials said that they have enough blood on hand to help the victims of the tragic fire in Rhode Island, but they will need more donors to increase the blood supply later.

The American Red Cross of Rhode Island is helping victims and their families.

To schedule a blood donation in Rhode Island, call the Rhode Island Blood Center at 1-800-283-8385. You may also visit www.givelife.org or call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543). To donate blood in Massachusetts, you can go to one of several donation centers:

Worcester Red Cross Donor Center
Blood donors can visit the Worcester Red Cross Blood Center, located at 381 Plantation Street, Five Biotech in Worcester today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Springfield Red Cross Donor Center
Blood donors can donate blood today in Greenfield at St. James Episcopal Church until 2 p.m. or at the American Legion in Southwick until 6 p.m. The Springfield Red Cross Blood Center, located at 3500 Main Street, will be open Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 1st 8 a.m. to 3 p.m..

UMASS Memorial Donor Center
Blood donors can also give blood at UMASS Memorial Healthcare, located at 55 Lake Avenue North in Worcester. UMASS Memorial Donor Center hours are today until 5 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
