An 84-year-old Malden woman who was a passenger in a car driven by her elderly husband has died after their car collided with another car in Woburn on Tuesday.

Katherine Casey was rushed to Lahey Clinic, where she later died. Her husband, Joseph Casey, 83, was at the wheel when their car crashed into another car driven by Claire Regan, 77, at the intersection of Russell Street and Cambridge Road.

Regan, who was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, was seriously injured in the crash.

Police have asked the Registry of Motor Vehicles to revoke Joseph Casey's license.

Even as the scene was unfolding, the uncle of a young girl allegedly struck and killed by an elderly driver in Stoughton last month was demanding action from lawmakers.

"Actually, look us in the eye and say that we're going to do everything we can to make sure this doesn't happen again. If this is avoidable, why shouldn't it be avoided?" Nayan Patel said.

Diya Patel, 4, was struck and killed while crossing a street with her grandfather and two siblings.

Forty proposed bills that would either limit or restrict elderly drivers are now under consideration on Beacon Hill and the next stop for the debate is a legislative committee. The bill getting the most attention would require road tests for drivers every five years once they turn 85.
