A Hanover man will be in court Monday on charges he kidnapped and and tried to rape a 6-year-old neighborhood girl who was a friend of his own two children.

Justin Shine, 26, will face kidnapping and attempted rape charges in Hingham District Court.

Police alleged he grabbed the girl Saturday while she was riding her bike at the Hanover Woods apartment complex on Franks Lane, then put her in leg shackles while attempting to rape her.

The child escaped and is hospitalized in unknown condition.

Officers, who had been called by the girl's mother when she couldn't find her daughter, said she led them to Shine's apartment. He was also injured in a struggle as police tried to arrest him, Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz said, and was hospitalized.

Shine has two children of his own, ages 6 and 8, with ex-girlfriend Holly Hersh, who said she was devastated.

"That poor little girl has to suffer for the rest of her life," Hershe said, sobbing. "My children have to suffer for the rest of their lives. I can't go back and live here."

She said she kicked Shine out of the house several weeks ago because of drug problems, but said he broke in over the weekend.

"Did I know he was a child molester? Hell no. Never thought in a million years. I've known him since I was a little girl," she said.

"I thank God that she got out before ... I thank God. But it's still stick," Hersh said.
