The owners of a Fall River day care were arrested on Friday after police say they failed to get medical help for two children who were bitten by a third child under their care, according to The Herald News of Fall River.

One of the victims, a 2-year-old girl, was hospitalized in Rhode Island with a severe injury to her left eyelid after she was bitten 12 times, police said. The girl may have to undergo plastic surgery as a result.

A 1-year-old boy was also bitten on the temple by the child during the incident, but he was not hospitalized.

Police said the husband-and-wife owners of the day care contacted the girl’s grandmother at 2 p.m. on Monday after they discovered her injuries. The wife told the girl’s grandmother that her injuries were “not that bad,” according to the Herald News.

The girl was dropped off to her grandmother seven hours later when the woman got off from work. Police said she transported her granddaughter to St. Anne’s Hospital as soon as she saw the injuries.

Ashraf William, 40, and his wife, Mervat Henein, 35, are each charged with wanton or reckless endangering of a child, permitting substantial injury to a child and permitting injury to a child. The couple operate Archangels Home Day Care out of the basement of their home at 6 Pulaski St., according to the Herald News.

Police said William and Henein did not contact the mother of the 1-year-old boy who was also bitten during the incident.
