BOSTON -- A Harvard football coach has been charged with trying to run down his pregnant ex-girlfriend in his car.NewsCenter 5's Bianca De La Garza reported that the woman said she was harassed for months and filed a restraining order. The victim, whose wanted to keep her identity concealed, said she was attending Harvard when she met university football coach Joe Villapiano. But after the victim became pregnant, she said she decided to end the relationship."I felt it was time to break up with him," she said. She said that angered Villapiano and claimed it's why he began harassing, calling and coming to her apartment. She said the harassment escalated near her South End apartment last month when Villapiano tried to run her down in his car."And I heard this car accelerating, and I turned to look where this car was coming from. And it didn't look like it was going to stop," she said. "If I hadn't stepped out of the position I was in, yes I would have been (hit)."She took photos of the car and documented her injuries.Boston police later arrested Villapiano on charges of assault and battery with a deadly weapon and violating a restraining order. The victim said his Harvard connection is helping him."People say where he works doesn't matter, but I'm finding the legal system is more interested in who he is and not what he's done," she said.A Harvard University official was unaware of the charges and did not comment on the case.Villapiano will return to court next month.
