BOSTON -- Police said one person was killed and several others were seriously hurt in a multiple-vehicle crash on Route 128 southbound in Burlington early Friday.State police said two sport utility vehicles, a 2000 Dodge Durango and a 1996 Ford Explorer, collided in the left lane causing both vehicles to roll over at about 6:53 a.m. in Burlington near the Burlington Mall.Two people were ejected from the Dodge, while three other passengers were trapped inside, state police said. One of those ejected suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.The other ejected victim was flown by medical helicopter to a Boston hospital. The three trapped victims were extricated with the Jaws of Life and were taken to an area hospital.The driver of the Ford, who was not ejected, was also taken to a hospital.The names of the victims were not immediately released and the extent of their injuries was unclear.The highway was closed intermittently for two hours while emergency crews cleared the scene and the helicopter landed.Backups extended back to Interstate 93 and motorists were advised to seek alternate routes. Traffic was being detoured onto the Middlesex Turnpike.
