BOSTON -- Three people were hurt in a five-car pileup on Interstate 93 southbound early Friday.
3 Hurt In 5-Car Pileup On I-93The crash, which happened at about 2:33 a.m., involved a 1998 Subaru Outback Station Wagon, a 2000 Toyota Camry sedan, a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier sedan, a 2009 Toyota Corolla sedan and a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer sedan.Police said George R. Aufderheide, 27, of Quincy, was driving his Chevy Cavalier southbound in the high-speed lane, lost control and hit the median.The Subaru Outback, operated by Matthew L. Trainor, 31, of Quincy, stopped to help. A Toyota Camry, driven by Henry C. Wang, 25, of Quincy, attempted to avoid the crash scene and hit the Cavalier, which then hit Aufderheide. The Mitsubishi Lancer, operated by Winfrey Darick, 42, of Somersworth, N.H., also tried to avoid the crash and hit the Cavalier and Aufderheide.Aufderheide suffered serious injuries. Two passengers in the Cavalier, Tim Lujan, 29, of West Reddy, Conn., and Regina Soccorso Reardon, 22, of Quincy, were also injured. All three were taken by ambulance to Boston Medical Center.A 2009 Toyota Corolla driven by Zhipeng Zhu, 21, of Quincy, was also hit during the crash.The cause of the crash is under investigation. The highway was closed for nearly three hours.
