The MSPCA is investigating a reported case of animal abuse that was allegedly captured on tape at an Allston liquor store.

The MSPCA confirmed that it is looking into a video clip posted on YouTube that claims to show a man inside Blanchard’s Liquors, on Harvard Avenue, jumping up and down on top of a dog cage. In the clip, the metal cage eventually crashes down onto a beagle held inside the cage.

"We want to get all of the facts. We want to learn everything about what is depicted in that video, before we move forward. But certainly that video is something that troubled us," said MSPCA investigator Peter Gollub.

It is unknown where the clip originated, but it appears to have been filmed by an in-store security camera. The MSPCA would not identify the man in the video.

NewsCenter 5's Sean Kelly reported that the man is associated with the store and that the incident took place after he had an argument in the store's parking lot.

The beagle was rescued by a store employee and the MSPCA said the dog is doing well. However, the posting of the video led to angry and emotional posts on YouTube.

"We don't encourage anyone to take the law into their own hands. We can understand the emotion this video might trigger," said Gollub.

Investigators said it is too early to determine if the man in the video will be charged.

In the video, the animal appears alert and conscious after emerging from the smashed cage.

Boston police said that the owner of Blanchard's Liquors was issued a license premise violation resulting from an investigation at the store on Friday.
