Six people who were arrested Friday as part of a nationwide crackdown on child prostitution are connected to the South Shore, according to the Patriot Ledger.

Gail Marcinkiewicz, a spokeswoman for the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Boston office, confirmed that the six people had ties to the area, but would not comment on whether they lived here or were simply arrested here, the paper reports.

The six were due to be arraigned in Dedham District Court on Monday.

FBI officials said that 571 people were arrested during the course of the three-night operation, which was targeted at netting pimps and gathering information about exploited children.

Officials said that 16 Massachusetts agencies participated in the investigation, dubbed “Operation Cross Country.” Teenage prostitutes found in the investigation ranged in age from 13 to 17 nationwide, according to the FBI.

Five women were also arrested by a team of local and federal police officers at the Boston Marriott Long Wharf Hotel on Friday as part of the operation. Investigators said the women, aged between 19 and 33, agreed to provide sex at a rate of $300 an hour. Undercover officers contacted the women through a posting on the Web site Craigslist, according to police.
