BOSTON -- Six young boys from Falmouth Middle School may face pornography charges for allegedly "sexting" nude photos of a classmate on their cell phones. It's just another incident in today's rapidly changing world of technology. Trying to keep up with it all and keep kids safe is the idea behind one school district's program.NewsCenter 5's Steve Lacey said that the person teaching that class is learning a thing or two himself -- from the students."This a gang site from New Bedford, which is interesting because it's a New Bedford-based gang that I've never heard," Officer Louis Pacheco said.Never heard of until he came across the gang's MySpace page. As a school resource officer in the Bridgewater-Raynham school district, it's Pacheco's job to use technology to try to stay one step ahead of online threats to students' safety. For the past six years, the school district has also been teaching students how to protect themselves.Students in the Bridgewater-Raynham school district are among the first in the area to complete a new online course about the dangers of cyber bullying."The kids, they don't know they're learning. They think they're having fun and playing games and then they're actually learning stuff," Pacheco said.So is Pacheco. The online course often leads to stunning admissions from his students."After that it becomes, 'Well as a matter of fact, I had a person call me similar to that and then we start talking about different stuff,'" Pacheco said.Whether it's on MySpace, Facebook or Instant Messenger, Pacheco then uses a series of ever-changing aliases to contact potential predators.Penalties can range from a warning to criminal charges of enticement of a minor. There are critics who question his tactics, likening them to a warrantless search."I have some basis of criminal activity before I talk to these people," Pacheco said.
