BOSTON -- The line was out the door, down the block and around the corner. Each person hoped to land a job at the new House of Blues opening in Boston next month.
House Of Blues To Open New Club-Restaurant"It's tough out there, you know? Business is slow for everyone and it's just really tough right now," said TJ Castiello, of Revere.House of Blues expects 2,000 people will be applying for 200 jobs. Everything from ticket sellers to bartenders, servers, dishwashers and security personnel."If there's not a job then you won't be able to afford rent, so, just making ends meet isn't cutting it," said Casey Leav, of Jamaica Plain.Newscenter 5's Amalia Barreda reported that the House of Blues is opening up on Landsdowne Street, in a totally new site where the old Avalon and Access clubs used to be.Aside from the restaurant and a private club, it will have the largest concert hall in the chain of 13 club-restaurants that will accommodate 2,500 people.Company officials said that, in a sense, it is a house that is coming home. Its first location opened in Cambridge in 1992, with part owner Dan Akroyd. When it was there it not only provided great music, it opened its doors by feeding the homeless on Thanksgiving."It is now a tradition in our company and every unit across the company on Thanksgiving, that we invite homeless folks, and we honor them by serving them a Thanksgiving meal," said Robert Simeone, a House of Blues senior vice president.Today, the company hopes it will give Boston's economy a boost."We feel very positive about this and feel that this will be a great place to have, and will clearly generate economic activity for this area," said Julie Jordan, general manager of the Boston establishment.Shelly Gayle, who said she needs a job ASAP, was feeling positive after her interview."I let him know I'm a team player. I can do what you need me to do. Whatever you need, I will assist so, hopefully, you know, they'll give me a call," said Gayle.
