An Amtrak train traveling at 100 mph struck and killed a 48-year-old woman Wednesday evening, authorities said.

The woman was struck just after 6 p.m. at the Hyde Park MBTA station.

Amtrak spokesman Clifford Cole told NewsCenter 5 that the Northeast Regional train had just left Boston's South Station and was headed to Washington. The train remained at the scene after the incident.

Cole described the person who was struck as a trespasser and did not know why the person was on the tracks.

There were no injuries to any of the 233 passengers on the train, or its crew.

Outbound and inbound train traffic was delayed for an hour and 35 minutes.
