Crews were in the process of demolishing an unoccupied house at 6 Winthrop St. that had burned on July 4 when the large backhoe hit their home, the Stoneham Fire Department said.

The fire department said the operator of the backhoe was unharmed in the incident.

It was not immediately clear what caused the accident or whether there was anyone in the house that was hit.
